Mandatory Credit: Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Elvis Andrus will announce his retirement from baseball on Friday and do so as a Texas Ranger, the club with which he spent 12 of his 15 seasons in the major leagues.
Texas announced Wednesday that Andrus will be joined by his former teammate, Rangers Hall of Famer and current special assistant Michael Young, and Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington, who was Texas' manager during Andrus' first six seasons.
Andrus just turned 36 last week.
He did not sign with a team this season after getting released by the Arizona Diamondbacks in March.
Andrus is a two-time All-Star with 2,091 career hits over 15 seasons. He has been a shortstop most of his career but did play 63 games (60 starts) at second base in 2023 for the Chicago White Sox.
Andrus finishes with a .269 career average and 102 homers and 775 RBIs in 2,059 games with the Rangers (2009-20), Oakland Athletics (2021-22) and the White Sox (2022-23). He has 347 career steals.
Washington and the Angels are in Texas for a four-game weekend series.
